Visited States Website

Traveling has been a part of my entire life. Road trips were a common way for my family and I to vacation and explore different cultures of various states. The more I traveled, the more curious I became with how many states in the U.S. I have visited so far and how many I have left to go. To visit all 50 states, plus D.C. is a common goal for enthusiastic travelers. It allows us to appreciate the different people, cultures, and terrain our nation has to offer. I used to find out my progress the manual way: with paper and pen. However, I am a visual learner so I wondered, wouldn’t it be cool to solve this problem with a digital program and a live map? I wanted to be able to see where I’ve been and what lands unknown I could visit next in the United States.

With a quick search, I saw there were already a handful of websites that had this same idea. Some were more detailed than others. With my graphic design background, I wanted to design a fun and light website that counted your visited states statistics as you interacted with the map. This was also an opportunity to build my first responsive website using HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. I learned how to manage many functions, data, and conditional logic. This website is great for curious minds, avid travelers, or anyone that needs an idea of where to travel next.
